Luis Rodil Fernández

Lecturer in Interaction Design

About

Artist, coder and teacher with a mixed background in computer science, art, and composition.

As an artist and coder they are interested in human-computer interactions, how the use of computers affects our cognition and our way of understanding the world. Their work in this area involves software, installations, performances and games; as ways of experimenting playfully with unconventional interfaces between human bodies and machines.

As an educator they use open-source tools for a hands-on pedagogical approach, tinkering with electronics and code they try to develop a conscious, systemic and human-centered perspective of how humans engage with and are transformed by technology.

Over the years and in different roles they have worked in videogames, cybersecurity, infrastructure for human rights defenders, and under their own studio as an autonomous artist and prototyper for complex digital products.

They have given talks and workshops at various institutions including Het Nieuwe Instituut, Waag Society, Bartlett School of Architecture, Architectural Association School of Architecture, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Erasmus University, Leuphana University of Lueneburg, Hamburg Media School, Minerva Art Academy and HKU University of the Arts Utrecht.

Observe people, be curious about people. It's the only way of understanding technology.
